Video Poker

The point in history when it was economical to have a television-like monitor and solid state central processing unit combined is when video poker became commercially viable. This point was in the mid-1970s, about the same time when personal computers made their appearance, and the earliest models started showing their new faces. Mind you that these were fairly primitive by todays standards.

The moment when SIRCOMA , which stood for Si Redd’s Coin Machines that later became International Game Technology, in 1979 introduced Draw Poker it got a foot in the market. In the 1980s people were becoming more and more comfortable with the device and its popularity shot through the roof. That is why there is a prominent place reserved today for video poker on the casino floors. The game is most popular with the locals of Las Vegas, who are going so far as to patronize the local casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. These local casinos then often offer a bonus or something extra like lower denomination machines or better odds, this was more common in the 1990s as casinos nowadays have been cutting their paytables and/or are only offering machines from 25 cents or higher.
